1812 Brewery

1812 Brewery is a family-owned farm brewery in the mountains near Cumberland, in Western Maryland, housed in a repurposed barn built in 1812. The family started by growing hops and opened the brewery in 2017, aiming to bring fresh craft beer back to Cumberland and carry on the region’s brewing history. The beer combines American craft methods with traditional European brewing techniques. Head brewer Casey got interested in brewing through a brewery engineering class at James Madison University, and he joined when his father and brother Cory chose to start a microbrewery on the family farm. He went on to earn a master brewer certification in Munich. The 100-acre farm is built for families, with a large patio, a playground, an outdoor stage for live music and weekly food trucks. Dogs are welcome, and the brewery hosts a farmers market and craft show and rents out its venue.
