Farmacy Brewing is a farm brewery at Willowdale Farm in Reisterstown, in Baltimore County. The family has owned Willowdale since 1961, and breeding and raising thoroughbred horses has always been its main focus. Dr. Michael Harrison, a longtime equine veterinarian, runs his practice from the farm. Today Willowdale is a working farm raising horses and cattle along with hay, row crops, fruit and vegetables. The brewery grew out of a family conversation about using everyday farm ingredients in unusual ways. A 7-barrel brewhouse lets the team rotate the tap list often and build beers around whatever each season provides. Recent pours have included a pilsner hopped with New Zealand varieties and a sessionable blonde ale. Fitting a brewery onto an active farm took careful balancing, so the taproom keeps limited hours, and the farmland is sustainably managed.
