Bollinger’s Restaurant & Uncle Dirty’s Brew Works

Bollinger’s Restaurant is a family-run restaurant in Thurmont, with roots going back to the 1940s. Around 1946, Eva Bollinger opened a small corner restaurant serving soups and sandwiches. In the early 1950s the family started Bollinger’s Dairy, selling bottled milk, dairy products and ice cream, and later opened a restaurant that became a popular local gathering spot. After that restaurant closed in 1970, her eldest son, Junie Bollinger, reopened the business in 1971. His daughter-in-law Donna bought it in 1989 and trained her own children in the trade. The restaurant lost its shopping center lease in January 2003. In spring 2007, Donna reopened with her children Joshua Bollinger and Carrie Fogle in a small restaurant a few steps from the old shopping center. Today it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with home-style cooking, fresh-baked pies and cakes, a fireplace and its own barbecue sauce.
