Steinhardt Brewing Company

Steinhardt Brewing Company is a family-run brewery in downtown Frederick focused on Old World Bavarian and Belgian-style beer. The family name arrived in America when John George Steinhardt emigrated from Munich through Ellis Island in 1927, and his son Jim now runs the brewery with his wife and co-owner, Daria, who has her own background with German and Belgian beer. Steady requests from friends and family for Jim’s homebrew led the couple to start a small commercial operation in their detached garage in Braddock Heights in 2014. They later opened their first tasting room on Carroll Creek, in the historic Union Mills complex. A 2022 expansion carried the brewery the full length of its block beside Carroll Creek, tripled its capacity and added a private biergarten courtyard. Dogs are welcome, and the brewery books food trucks, live music and private events.
