Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint Farm

Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint Farm is a farm brewery near Mount Airy run by Tom and Carolann. The couple set out to show that a 47-acre farm could be profitable in central Maryland. Tom had been homebrewing since 1972, and Carolann was interested in horse breeding and animal husbandry, so they planted a hopyard, built an apiary and started a flock of Leicester Longwool sheep. Tom then worked with farmers, brewers and lawmakers to pass Maryland’s farm brewery law in 2012, and the tasting room opened in June 2013 as the state’s first Class 8 farm brewery. The sheep graze the Cascade and Chinook hopyard to control weeds. The brewery focuses on classic styles made with Maryland hops, along with a Stillpoint Reserve series and an All Maryland Beer program using state-grown grain and hops. An on-farm mercantile sells local produce, meats, cheeses and crafts.
