Brewers Alley

Brewer’s Alley is a brewpub in downtown Frederick. It opened in 1996 as the city’s first brewpub. The name honors Frederick’s original Brewer’s Alley, which was part of local social and economic life for more than 150 years until it was destroyed by fire in 1901. The brewpub occupies a historic building on a site whose uses since 1765 have included Frederick’s first city hall, a market house, a city jail and an opera house. The site also saw the ransoming of Frederick in the Civil War. The owners have kept details of the old opera house, including hand-etched glass and restored architectural features. The multi-level space pairs house-brewed beer with a scratch kitchen that includes a wood-fired oven, and it also has a rooftop area. It hosts beer dinners, nightlife events and private functions.
