Streetcar 82 Brewing Co.

Streetcar 82 Brewing Co. is a Deaf-owned brewery in Hyattsville. The name comes from the 82 streetcar, which ran from 1888 until 1958 from 5th and G Streets in Washington through Eckington, Woodridge, Mount Rainier, Hyattsville and College Park, mostly along Rhode Island Avenue. That route passes right by the brewery’s front door. The owners chose Hyattsville for its strong community of makers and artisans and for the support of a large Deaf community near Gallaudet University, and many regulars talk with staff in ASL. Owner and head brewer Mark Burke was a school administrator before he turned to brewing full time. Besides its own beer, the taproom pours wine, cider, hard seltzer, non-alcoholic beer and craft sodas. The brewery keeps an all-Deaf staff, opening service and brewing jobs to Deaf workers, and it hosts food trucks and community events.
