Waredaca Brewing Company
About
Waredaca Brewing Company is a farm brewery on Waredaca Farm in Laytonsville. The property has a long family history. R. Beecher Butts started a boys’ camp near Washington in 1932, and it moved to Laytonsville in 1953 as Camp Waredaca, a name drawn from Washington Recreational Day Camp. The farm later became an equestrian eventing barn and riding lesson facility, still run by Butts descendants, and it has been certified as an agricultural steward under Maryland’s Farm Stewardship Certification and Assessment Program. The brewery follows the same approach. It reuses an existing building, works to limit water use, sends spent grain to a local farmer, grows hops on the farm and sources local grain where it can. Visitors can sit indoors or outdoors, and private events can be held in the industrial brew house or in the orchard.
